Directions

Borong is a small village in South Sikkim, 16 km from Ravangla. It is at an altitude of 5800 feet and is a heavenly place for nature lovers. A picturesque landscape, surrounded by snow covered mountains, forest, streams, hot water springs, hanging bridges and river, it is in the “Silent Valley” of Mainam Sanctuary. Borong is a bird lovers paradise.

Directions – We are 16 kms from Ravangla town. From Ravangla, take the road towards Buddha Park (Tathagata Tsal). Go past Buddha Park and the road actually goes upwards from there. Keep going till you reach Ralang Monastery to your right. Go past the Ralang Monastery. A little later, you will come to a fork (picture given above), keep to the right here. And then, as you go along, you will cross a bridge over a gorgeous water falls. After some distance, you will go past Old Ralang Monastery, and then you will come across a signboard for Hot Springs. Go past that Sign board, and we are about 500 meters from there.

How to book rooms at Wild flower Retreat, Borong?

Our booking system is completely online. All bookings have to be paid 100% in advance.

Please follow the steps below.

  1. Click on the “Check Room Availability” button below. It will open in a separate screen. Select your desired Check-in and Check-out dates. Then select the number of rooms you require and the number of persons in each room. Click on “Search”. This will display the real-time availability of our rooms on your desired dates and their respective “Room-Only” rates.
  2. Click on the room you desire. It will display the various meal plans for the chosen room. Click on the “Book” or “Reserve” button next to the meal plan to select it. If you need multiple rooms then you need to select the meal plan for each room one by one.
  3. Once all your rooms and rate plans are selected, you will have to provide your contact details now. Click on the check box “I accept the Terms..” and then click on “Confirm and Book”.
  4. You will now be taken to the Payment page. Complete the payment by either netbanking / debit or credit cards. You will be issued a booking confirmation voucher via email immediately.

How to reach Wild Flower Retreat, Borong?

  1. If you are driving yourself, the road from New Jalpaiguri(NJP) to Borong is in a reasonably good condition. It is 140 kms of well paved hilly roads and would take about 5 hours under normal driving conditions. The route is Siliguri-Melli-Namchi-Ravangla-Borong. Due to weather conditions, the roads may be wet and broken at places during the monsoon, and we advise you not to self-drive unless you are used to driving in such conditions. A map is provided in Contact Us Page and we are marked in Google Maps as well.
  2. Taxis i.e. Bolero, Sumo etc. are available from New Jalpaiguri Station or Bagdogra airport and as on December 2017 the rates are INR4500 for a drop. Smaller cars could be hired for INR4000.
  3. Pakyong airport is 76 kms away and it takes about 3 hours from there.
  4. From SNT(Sikkim Nationalist Transport) Bus Stand in Pradhannagar,Siliguri there are bus service to Ravangla, ticket fare is about INR200. From Ravangla, taxi can be arranged for pickup at about INR700.
  5. Road Distances(all roads pass through Ravangla):
    • Borong to Ravangla – 16 kms
    • Borong to Gangtok – 69 kms
    • Borong to Pelling – 85 kms
    • Borong to Siliguri – 130 kms
    • Borong to Zuluk – 141 kms
    • Borong to Pakyong Airport – 80 kms
  6. The nearest bus stand and taxi stand is at Ravangla. We will be more than happy to arrange your transportation.
  7. A daily bus service has started between Namchi and Borong by Sikkim Transport. It operates once a day.

As a foreigner what should you be aware of?

Please check for Inner Line Permit(ILP) requirements. Usually these are available at Melli and Rangpo checkposts only, so please make sure you are entering Sikkim through these checkposts. Other entry points in Sikkim may not issue this permit and refuse you entry. For current information, please refer website of Sikkim tourism.

What types of food are available at Wild Flower Retreat?

Good food is an integral part of any vacation just as a good destination.

At Wild Flower Retreat, we try to be creative with our menu. Over the years, Dhananjay’s(our chef/manager) cooking has almost developed a following. Vegetable grown from our own garden are used to the extent available. You may be aware that Sikkim is an organic state. Consequently, all vegetables are organic. Since the nearest market is 16 kms away,  we do not always get bakery bread. However, our menu offers a variety of Vegetarian and Non-Vegetarian dishes. In addition, we prepare, the special of the day based on availability. The menu spreads across Bengali, Indo-chinese, North Indian and local Sikkimese flavors. You can click here for some pictures.

Barbecue Dinner

At Wild Flower, we have open air barbecue facility. We offer barbeque dinner services subject to weather. Our cooks prepare the food on open barbecue pits. After it is done, we finally serve you the dinner fireside and under the stars.

Note:We accept special requests at the kitchen depending on availability. We try to adhere to any dietary restrictions that you may have with prior notice.
We encourage you to use the dining room for your meals, and room service is only available under exceptional conditions.

What are our Terms & Conditions for Booking and Cancellations?

All bookings have to paid in full in order to obtain a booking confirmation. In the unfortunate event that you have to cancel your confirmed booking, please note our cancellation policies below:

    • 75% refund if cancelled prior to and up to 30 days of checkin date.
    • 50% refund if cancelled prior to and up to 15 days of checkin date.
    • 25% refund if cancelled prior to and up to 10 days of checkin date.
    • No refund on any bookings which are made at a discounted rate(if any).
    • No refund on any bookings which include a public holiday, school summer vacation(15th May to 15th June), festive season (Durga Puja till Lakshmi Puja, one week before until one week after Diwali, December 23rd to January 1st.)

In the event of a Natural Calamity or Disruptions due to any incident beyond the Hotel’s control, the hotel will not issue a refund but will provide a full credit towards a future booking.

We are unable to change booking dates for bookings made through other online channel partners(MakemyTrip, Goibibo etc) and cancellation policies for the said Channel Partner will prevail in such cases.

Why do we not have TV’s in the cottages and rooms?

Our hotel is situated on the migratory route of Himalayan birds. To keep our noise level at a minimum, we do not have TVs in our rooms and cottages.We would encourage that you try to enjoy the nature sound of the night outside. You may hear the dew drops fall.

How is the weather in Borong?

Situated at 5600 ft the weather at Borong is comparatively mild. It is cool in the summer, rains heavily in the monsoons, and bit chilly in the winter. A monthly weather pattern is provided at the bottom of this page.

How is the Wild flower Retreat laid out? Can I see a layout map?

Wild Flower Retreat occupies 2 acres of open space overlooking a wooded valley. A layout map is provided at the bottom of this page. The brick and mortar rooms are to the one side of the property. The wooden private cottages are separately located in the wildflower garden, approximately 100 ft apart. The dining room is centrally located and is about 50-100 feet walk from any of the rooms or cottages.

We are probably not for all..

Let us accept the fact that not everyone likes everything. Similarly, Wild Flower Retreat may not be suitable for all. Do not come here if :
– You are Looking for a shopping destination, then please be aware that we are a small village in the middle of a forest area.
– You want to catch up with the latest TV serials or catch a sports game live. As we do not have TV or WiFi.
– You are a youtube addict. Hardly any data signal will work other than BSNL and Airtel. This is not a Jio-land.
– You are looking to be well connected with Social Media during your vacation, then note that mobile phone and data connections are patchy at times.
– You want to be in the middle of a city life then please be aware that the nearest town is 15 kms away.

Every Season has a reason to go Sikkim

January is the coldest month here. During January, day temperature rises upto 1°C; and night temperature goes down upto -5°C; As the new year sets in, the peaks shine bright with white snow, the weather is chilly and clear, there is nothing like having a hot tea on the balcony watching the mountains while waiting for the babblers.

During February, day temperature rises upto 10°C; and night temperature goes down upto 0°C;. There are very few chances of rain during February here. According to past records, there is 0.88cm rainfall every year during February here. Overall weather reviews shows that February is one of the best months to visit us. The holidays would be over, there will still be a nip in the air, time for your solitude with the Snow peaks which will glisten from the fresh snowfalls of winter.

During March, day temperature rises upto 15°C; and night temperature goes down upto 5°C;. Weather is quite clear during March. According to past records, there is 1.6cm rainfall every year during March here. Overall weather reviews shows that March is one of the best months to visit us. The spring is around the corner, the Rhododendrons and Magnolias will start blooming.

Day temperature during April at this Resort in Ravangla rises upto 20°C; and night temperature goes down upto 10°C;. Weather is quite clear during April. According to past year record, there is 2.18cm rainfall every year during April here. Overall weather reviews shows that April is one of the best months to visit us. Spring in its full glory will be at Wild Flower Retreat, the wild flowers bloom, the snow peaks will be shining. And the Rhododendrons and Magnolias, the Camelias and Azaleas will be having their last hurrah.

This month is one of the warm months here. During May, day temperature rises upto 25°C; and night temperature goes down upto 15°C;. Weather is quite clear during May. According to past year record, there is 2.42cm rainfall every year during May here. The summer vacations are on us. For parents who want their kids to take a nature walk in the forests, and share a story from their childhood under the starry skies, this is the best time for visting us. Wild flowers will by now be ruling the grounds.

This month is one of the warm months here. During June, day temperature rises upto 25°C; and night temperature goes down upto 15°C;. Weather is quite clear during June. According to past records, there is 4.09cm rainfall every year during June here. Summer in its full glory in South Sikkim.

This month is one of the warm months here. During July, day temperature rises upto 20°C; and night temperature goes down upto 15°C;. July is one of the rainy months here. According to past records, there is 7.51cm rainfall every year during July here. Wild flower Retreat operates with limited stuff during this month, as there are few guests during this time. We only encourage people who enjoy monsoon in the hills to visit us during this time. The streams will be gushing, the bushes will be green as the dark monsoon clouds start rolling in.

This month is the warmest month here. During August, day temperature rises upto 20°C; and night temperature goes down upto 15°C;. August is one of the rainy months here. According to past records, there is 7.2cm rainfall every year during August here. Wild flower Retreat operates with limited stuff during this month, as there are few guests during this time. We only encourage people who enjoy monsoon in the hills to visit us during this time. The streams will be in torrents, the trees and bushes will celebrate go-green as the dark monsoon clouds bring in the rains.

This month is one of the warm months here. During September, day temperature rises upto 20 C° and night temperature goes down upto 10 C°. Weather is quite clear during September as the rains are mostly over. Our support staff come back around the second week of September and we get ready for the ensuing holiday season. According to past records, there is 3.44cm rainfall every year during September here.

During October, day temperature rises upto 20°C; and night temperature goes down upto 10°C;. Weather is quite clear during October. According to past record, there is 1.48cm rainfall every year during October here. Overall weather reviews show that October is one of the best months to visit us. Expect some rush during this period during the Durga Puja vacations and please book ahead.

During November, day temperature rises upto 10°C; and night temperature goes down upto 0°C;. Overall weather reviews shows that November is one of the best months to visit us. The holiday crowds will be gone, there will be a nip in the air. The skies will be clear as the forests around us get ready for the winter.

During December, day temperature rises upto 10°C; and night temperature goes down upto 0°C;. Overall weather reviews shows that December is one of the best months to visit us. Expect some rush during this period around the Christmas and New Year vacations and please book ahead.
